Adult Ministry

In an effort to assist you in finding your place in our Christian Community, these pages were created to present short outlines of each Adult Sunday School Class currently meeting at Lampeter Church of the Brethren each Sunday mornings at 10:00 am.

Founders

ImageThe Founders Sunday School class is a friendly group of singles and married couples over the age of 60.  They share the wisdom from their years of experience and Bible study in an atmosphere sparked by a desire to learn.

The Founders are very active in the life of the church.  They help to prepare and clean up during Wednesday Night Happenings.  They also serve as deacon, various church commissions, and delegates to District and Annual Conferences.  The Founders also participate in the District Disaster Relief Sale and work at New Widsor Service Center.  The class consists of teachers, choir members, organists, quilters, cooks, and visitors of the sick and shut-ins.

The Founders are also a very social group.  Activities are planned approximately 6 times a year.  The activities include: day trips, attending dramatic performances, going out to eat, and playing games.  Their annual February meeting is a "Pound Sale".  The proceeds from the sale got various community and world outreach ministries.

They always welcome new members, and always have room for 1 more.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Shirley Keener.

Seekers

ImageThe Seekers Sunday School class is a diverse group of individuals.  They consist of singles, couples, parents and grandparents.

They enjoy meeting on Sunday mornings to pray and study God's word.  They are a close group that shares their joys and concerns, and they love to laugh as they adjust to life's changes.  They are like a close-knit family.

The Seekers are very active in the life of the church.  Some are involved with leadership roles within the church, choir members, deacons, and Sunday School teachers and helpers.

They support many projects in the life of the church.  They also enjoy getting together for social activities.  Regular activities include a swimming pool party, a picnic with homemade ice cream, attending a Christmas dinner/theatre presentation, and their annual trip to Ocean City Maryland.

Ultimately, their focus is to study Christ's love and example and share with others in their daily walk of life.  They eagerly welcome new members to their class, and including them into their family of God.  For more information, please contact Dennis or Gerry Emmert.

Sojourners

Image “Sojourner” means to stay as a temporary resident.  [Leviticus 25:23 states “…for you are but aliens and sojourners with Me.” (New American Standard Bible)].  Similar to the dictionary definition, as believers aren’t we all temporary residents?  The Sojourners Sunday School class is a group committed to growth in Christian faith and belief, exploration and study of scripture, and discipleship in the Anabaptist tradition.

The Sojourners group tends to cover a large age span where the members include parents, new grandparents and singles.  The sharing of concerns and joys goes beyond the classroom door for this group, forming friendships and caring for one another.

The Sojourners class is open to freely sharing their beliefs and goals.  They enjoy lively, open discussions, biblical study, questioning and sharing in an effort to gain understanding and clarity.  Laughter is an integral part of every session.  Being very active in community life as well as within the body of Lampeter, they periodically, meet socially for family activities and service to the community.  The Sojourners serve the larger Lampeter church body in governing leadership roles, as worship leaders, as teachers, in children’s ministry, music ministries and drama ministries.  They also serve the greater interdenominational body of the church by serving on district boards and various community service organizations.

The class is always open to new members of any age and a sharing of ideas.  Come and join the class as fellow “temporary residents” and join in the quest for growth in your personal relationship with Christ and each other.  For more information feel free to contact Colleen Crammer, Doreen Creighton or Bob Williams.

Adventurers

ImageThe Adventurers Sunday School Class consists of different personalities, ages (mostly 30-50+), experiences, and denominational backgrounds.  A majority of the families have children allowing them to have many common interests.

The Adventurers help each other understand how to apply the Bible to each others lives through open discussion and personal sharing.  They are compassionate and responsive to both class members and others.  They provide encouragement by sharing meal, cards, and flowers.  The Adventurers share prayer concerns and remember one another regularly.

The Adventurers are a very active Sunday School group that builds strong friendships and good times during monthly social activities.  Some activities include: a progressive dinner, hiking, barn parties, picnics, bowling, miniature golfing, swimming and game nights.  While a few of the activities are planned for adults only, most are designed for the entire family.

They also believe in reaching out to others.  They do this by participating in social projects.  They give money to worthy organizations and gifts to needy families in the community.

The Adventurers are highly active throughout the church.  They are also involved in several groups including: a men's and women's Bible study, women's small group and a marriage enrichment group.  For more information contact Kim Nielsen.

The Wanderers

ImageThe Wanderers Sunday School Class consists of mostly married couples in their thirties and forties. A majority of the families have children so the group has a lot of common interests.

The Wanderers are very active in the life of the church. Some are members of the leadership team and children’s ministry team, while others are worship leaders, musicians, and Sunday school teachers. The variety of gifts and dedication within the Wanderers leads most to be involved in some aspect of the church.

Those familiar with the class recognize them as a group that enjoys talking, whether in a class or social setting.  The Wanderers are free to share their thoughts and feelings in a non-threatening and open manner.  It's become a group that embraces the questions of new believers as we all search for guidance in living a life of faith.

The Wanderers are also a very active Sunday school class. They are involved in various service projects such as serving a community meal to hungry families in Lancaster and distributing annual Christmas food and gift boxes for needy families.  Bible study, book club and small groups are other ways to connect and develop relationships.   The Wanderers have a monthly newsletter and fellowship time and communicate prayer requests and news via e-mail.

While a few of the social activities are planned for adults only, most activities are designed for the entire family.  Regular annual activities include a Harvest party and bonfire, a Valentines party, beach day, golf outing and picnic and a Christmas party.  If you are looking for a friendly, active, enthusiastic church group to be a part of, please consider visiting one of the Wanderers Sunday School Classes!   The Wanderers normally have two or three Sunday school classes to choose from.  For more information, please contact Wendy Capoferri.

Young Adults

ImageThe Young Adult Class welcomes recent high school graduates, college students, career-starters, and young couples.

Events and discussions focus on strengthening their faith and interpersonal relationships, walking together through the changes and transitions of young adulthood with Christ as their focus.

Recognizing that they are both human and children of God, they strive to include both faith and fun in their activities.  In addition to Sunday School, they meet several times a month for Bible study and devotion as well as activities like movies, billiards, volleyball, and various service projects. For more information feel free to contact Jeff and Sharon Kingsley.

God calls the Lampeter Church of the Brethren to share salvation and make Christian disciples of all persons in the surrounding community and throughout the world by providing a strong and nurturing fellowship. Inspired by God’s word, revealed in Christ’s example, and guided by the Holy Spirit, the church shall minister to the people’s spiritual, social, and physical needs through caring and service.
